The Minnesota Wild are facing down elimination at the hands of the Dallas Stars this weekend – so Jordan Schroeder, who hasn’t managed to draw into the postseason lineup yet so far, will get his shot.
The Wild confirmed on Friday that Schroeder will take his place in the lineup for game five of the Western Conference Quarterfinals tonight, replacing fellow forward Justin Fontaine in the depth chart as the Wild look to keep their playoff chances alive.
Drafted in the first round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Vancouver Canucks, Schroeder – who stands at just five foot nine and 176 lbs – was signed by the Wild as a free agent in 2014 after the Canucks opted not to re-sign their prospect.
Since arriving in Minnesota, the undersized winger has, like in Vancouver, had trouble sticking in the NHL lineup – despite his numbers at the AHL level looking strong in each of his seasons. This year, he stood in the lineup for 26 NHL games, recording two goals and four points, but added 14 goals and 34 points in the AHL with the Iowa Wild during a 40 game stint with the affiliate.
The Wild and the Stars will face off tonight at 8:30 PM CST in Dallas, Texas, where the Stars will look to finish off the series with a final victory over their divisional rivals. The Wild, on the other hand, will look to stave off elimination for at least one more game, as they sit on a 3-1 series deficit coming into the game.
