Corey Perry and the Anaheim Ducks were eliminated from the 2016 postseason on Wednesday – and less than 24 hours later, the antagonistic right winger has already announced that he’s got one more hockey event left this spring.
Perry joined Derick Brassard and Matthew Dumba on Thursday as three more skaters confirming their attendance at the 2016 IIHF World Championships in Russia this May, adding experience and scoring depth to the lineup both on offense and from the blue line.
While all three join the Canadian national team with international experience, Perry is the only one of the three who has played for the country’s men’s roster during his career.
Dumba, who was a seventh overall pick for the Minnesota Wild in 2012, is just 21; he’ll not only bring youth to the lineup, but he’ll bring U20 roster experience without any time spent on the men’s national team. Brassard, who wrapped up his season with the Minnesota Wild just a few days prior to Dumba and Perry’s seasons endings, has even less experience; he hasn’t played for Team Canada since the U18 World Juniors in 2005.
The trio join a team that has already named Connor McDavid (who, like Dumba, will come with only recently U20 roster experience to the lineup) and Christopher Tanev (no international experience at all) hoping to defend Canada’s gold medal from last season. The tournament will begin on May 6th and continue through May 22nd.
