Minnesota forward Jason Pominville, listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury, was forced to miss Thursday’s game against Edmonton, bringing his iron-man streak to an end at 231 games.
It tied the record for most consecutive games played for the Minnesota franchise.
Pominville has 11 goals and 33 points in 67 games for the Wild this season, down on last season’s 18 goals and 54 points. The Quebec native scored 30 goals and 60 points during the 2013-14 season.
Drafted in the second round (55th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Pominville spent part of nine seasons with the organization before being traded to Minnesota in 2013 in exchange for Matt Hackett, Johan Larsson, a first-round selection in 2013 (which became Nikita Zadorov) and a second-round selection in 2014 (Vaclav Karabacek). Thursday represented the first game Pominville has missed since joining the the Wild–a pretty outstanding run for the veteran forward.
In 819 career NHL games, the winger has scored 248 goals and 612 points.
He signed a five-year deal with the Wild in 2014, worth a total of $28 million, which included a no movement clause and modified no-trade clause. He is Minnesota’s fifth-highest paid player, carrying an average cap hit of $5.6 million. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.
The Wild are currently battling with Colorado for the second wild card spot. The Avalanche have picked up 74 points in 69 games so far this season, while Minnesota have secured 72 points in 68 games. The two sides face off in Denver on Saturday March 26.
Minnesota begins a three game road trip in Montreal on Saturday, before moving on to Ottawa on Tuesday and then New Jersey on Thursday.
